Brightcove Support TV
Like most of my favorite work, Support TV happened on a whim. My manager organized a week of food, fun, and entertainment as a ploy to coax people into following protocol when asking our team for help. I created a video every day that week. The marketing team saw an opportunity and asked me to create support videos for the company as a means to teach and entertain Brightcove publishers.
The soundtrack was minimal in the beginning, with just a little guitar and keyboard for the opening and ending. When we moved into episode four, however, I put together songs and complex scores. The orchestration concentrated heavily on strings and piano, like much of my music does, but it also contained various other tracks from rock musical to 80s techno. Each episode gave me the opportunity to play with something a little different. It made the soundtrack much more interesting.
The show, despite its oddities, was about helping people. I decided as it began to draw to a close that, perhaps, the soundtrack could help publishers. Clearly a song about the Brightcove APIs or Publishpod encoding software wouldn't be of much use, so I decided to offer up the tracks, completely free, for production use. I have yet to know if anyone has put them to good use, but I like knowing it's a possibility.
While the entire production was a wonderful experience, being able to put my skills as a musician to professional use was very exciting. I had few opportunities prior, and the soundtrack for Support TV allowed me to express myself in many new ways.
