Subject

I call subject the category of photos between portrait and landscape. It's more than just capturing a face?it's capturing action as well. Or it's capturing an inanimate object. It's that middle ground I can't quite categorize so easily.

Subject photos are always a lot of fun for me because there is more of a story behind them. While the goal with any photograph, at least for me, is to bring out as much personality as I can, a good subject photograph is already telling. They're the kinds of photos that have an inherent caption. They're the kinds of photos that have more of a purpose on iStock. They're thought out and prepared.

One of my favorite things to do is put together a series of subject photos, telling some kind of odd story. I've done so to make a number of slideshow videos. Some stories are better, and more effectively, told by only a few images rather than full motion. There's more room for viewer's imagination, which is rarely a bad thing.
