Brightcove WordPress Plug-in

I have a difficult time accepting realities that I do not agree with. To be more precise, I don't accept those realities. It's a quality and a problem. When I first began at Brightcove, there were several publishers who couldn't use our service because they were unable to post video players in their WordPress blog. The development team didn't have the work cycles and no one with the cycles had the knowledge to put the plug-in together--myself included. I wasn't satisfied with that, so I changed it.

After hearing more complaints about the lack of WordPress support for the Brightcove product, I had the opportunity to walk home in the rain or stay a little longer and explore potential fixes. I chose the latter. A little longer turned into midnight and I got closer and closer to an answer. I'd learned how to write a WordPress plug-in and began experimenting on ways to safely insert the code into the blog. As long as the JavaScript contained no strings, WordPress was happy. Through that, I wrote JavaScript code that would translate numeric values into the values the player publishing code needed. It took until morning, and I became well aware of the creepy noises the 12th floor made all on its own, but the problem was solved.

The initial implementation was poor. Over time, as new products were introduced, I updated the plug-in. I found new ways to circumvent the numerics-only issue. The plug-in is now full-featured and posting is much easier than it was initially. It was my first piece of "software" I was able to see in use by others. Very cool :).
